Football Summit Meeting

On 20 September 2011, Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz met with a delegation of the Association of European Professional Football Leagues which represents the interests of 30 European football leagues grouping nearly 1000 clubs. The meeting was held within the consultations under the Polish Presidency of the EU Council on the Polish priorities in the field of sport, which include fight against match-fixing and good governance in sport.

Sports Volunteering in Warsaw

An expert conference entitled "From volunteering to leadership in sport", organised under the Polish Presidency, was held in Warsaw on 13-14 September 2011. The conference was attended by over 200 participants from 22 countries. Its aim was to promote sports volunteering as one of the most popular forms of social activity. The conference was one of the events organised by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism in connection with our country's Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Poland signs the Protocol on Sustainable Tourism to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians

On September 8th, 2011, during the 21st Economic Forum in Krynica, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism Katarzyna Sobierajska signed the Protocol on Sustainable Tourism to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians.

Message of condolences from Minister Giersz

It was with great sadness that I learned about the tragic airplane disaster in Yaroslavl which involved the Locomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team. In the name of all people associated with sport in Poland, and on my own behalf, I offer my most sincere condolences and express solidarity with the grieving Russian nation. My thoughts are with the mourning families and friends of the tragedy's victims.

The 2nd edition of the nationwide Orlik Tournament for the Cup of Prime Minister Donald Tusk began on September 2nd on an Orlik field in Sulejówek near Warsaw. The Tournament was officially opened by the Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz.

Sejm discussion on pathologies in sport

On 18 August 2011, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism Tomasz Półgrabski took part in the meeting of the Sejm's National and Ethnic Minorities Committee to discuss i.a. the fight against pathologies in sport in the context of the upcoming UEFA EURO 2012TM European Football Championship.

Polish holidays for children from Japan

From 24 July to 10 August 2011, at the Japanese Martial Arts and Sports Centre "Dojo Stara Wieś" a sports camp is held for 30 Japanese children from the region devastated by the tsunami. One of the organisers of the Japanese guests' visit is the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

On 18-19 July 2011, a conference with the theme „Ensuring equal opportunities through sport as an element of social policy" was held at Wrocław City Hall. It kicked off a series of events organised under the Polish Presidency in the field of sport, aiming to contribute to the implementation of one of Poland's priorities: the social dimension of sport.
