The European Conference on Local Sports Participation: Social Inclusion & Combating Poverty will be held, under the auspices of the Belgian EU Presidency, in Leuven (Belgium) on October 13th and 14th. The main objective of the Conference is to promote sports activity in groups threatened by social exclusion.

On Thursday, August 5th 2010, an annex to the agreement with the National Sports Centre was signed at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. The annex broadens the scope of activities of the NSC to include new tasks related to the preparation and implementation of the UEFA EURO 2012 project.

jubilee, 20th European Athletics Championships which took
place in
Barcelona (Spain) from 26 July until 1 August, 2010, Polish athletes
have
reached the 8th place of the medal table with a total of 2
gold, 2
silver and 5 bronze medals and 7th position in the so-called
"point
classification".

Polish speedway riders have
successfully defended the Team World Cup. In the final competition in
Vojens, Denmark,
the Poles defeated the Danes, the Swedes and the British. This was the
Poles' first
ever Team World Cup victory on a foreign
racetrack.

Bronisław
Komorowski, Speaker of the Seym and Acting President, signed the new Act
on
Sport on Monday, July 5th. The new piece of legislation will replace the
existing acts on physical culture and on professional sports once it
takes
effect three months from the date of its publication in the Journal of
Laws.

A conference marking the
inauguration of a campaign promoting Eastern Poland
was held on June 29th. The Polish Tourism Organization is the
beneficiary of a
non-competition (individual) project entitled
"Promotion of sustainable development of tourism", implemented within
the
framework of Activity 5.1 of the operational programme "Development of
Eastern
Poland (2007-2013)". The objective of the project is to attract interest
to the
tourism products of five voivodeships: Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Podlaskie,
Lubelskie, Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyskie.

A conference entitled "Volunteering
in sports as an opportunity for enhancing social activity and cohesion"
was
held by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism on 22 June 2010, at the
Olympic
Centre of the Polish Olympic Committee. The meeting was attended, among
others,
by Adam Giersz, Minister of Sport and Tourism, Ryszard Stachurski,
Secretary of
State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Andrzej Kraśnicki, President
of the
Polish Olympic Committee, Krzysztof Więckiewicz, Director of the
Department of Public
Benefit of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, representatives of
the
companies PL.2012 and EURO 2012 Polska, representatives of local
governments,
non-governmental organizations related to sports and of other
organizations. In
all, the event had 170 participants.

On May 19, 2010, i.e. 800 days before the opening of the London 2012 Olympics, Adam Giersz, Minister of Sport and Tourism, presented a new Olympic Preparations strategy, entitled ‘Poland Club'. The objective of the project is to maximize the medal potential in Olympic sports for Poland.

On May 5th, 2010, Adam Giersz, Minister of Sport and Tourism, and Mateusz Morawiecki, CEO of Bank Zachodni WBK, took part in a press conference which marked the beginning of the 2nd edition of the "Orlik Academy" programme. The conference was also attended by Małgorzata Biegajło, Vice-Mayor of Pabianice, and Dariusz Dziekanowski, Chairman of the Board of the Polish Ex-Footballers Association.
