Act on sport already in force
The new Act on sport entered into force on October 16th 2010. The Act introduces completely new regulations concerning sport in Poland and sets the principles of sport organization. The new Act replaces the old Acts on physical culture and on professional sport.
Michel Platini visits Warsaw
UEFA President Michel Platini paid a short visit to Warsaw on October 14th 2010. The main point in the agenda of the visit of the head of European football in Poland was a meeting with the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski.
Polish-Russian Tourism Forum in Saint Petersburg
On October 9-12, 2010, the Polish-Russian Tourism Sector Forum took place in Saint Petersburg. Participants included, among others, Katarzyna Sobierajska, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism; Jan Korsak, President of the Polish Chamber of Tourism and Jan Szmytke, President of the Polish Tourism Organization.
TAFISA World Walking Day in Poland
The weekend of October 2-3, 2010, provided fans of walking with numerous opportunities to enjoy their hobby. On that weekend, chosen by TAFISA for the celebration of the World Walking Day, walking events took place in more than 30 places all over Poland. They were organized thanks to funding from the programme of promotion of physical culture and sport, implemented by the Department of Sports for All.
Poland and Ukraine sign ‘road map"
On September 30th 2010, in Warsaw, the Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz and Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Borys Kolesnikow signed a ‘road map' for Poland and Ukraine, setting the areas of cooperation between the two countries in the process of preparation for UEFA EURO 2012.
The European Union has its ‘Sports Council"
On September 16th 2010, the EU ‘Education, Youth and Culture' Council changed its name to ‘Education, Youth, Culture and Sport' Council. Philippe Muyters, Flemish Minister responsible for the coordination of the Belgian EU Presidency in the field of Sport emphasized that this change is not only symbolic, but also confirms the significance of sport for the European Union.
Minister Giersz welcomes the participants of the Special Olympics European Summer Games (SOESG)
On September 18th, 2010, Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz took part in the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics European Summer Games (SOESG). The Flame of Hope, carried from Aleksandropolis, was lit at the Legia Warsaw stadium, with more than twenty thousand spectators on the stands. The Mayor of the Capital City Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, opened the European Summer Special Olympics Games.
World Tourism Day Celebration
Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, has officially announced the commencement of the celebration of World Tourism Day 2010, under the theme Tourism and Biodiversity.

Orlik Tournament for the Cup of Prime Minister Donald Tusk kicks off
On September 2nd, a press conference on the Orlik Tournament for the Cup of Prime Minister Donald Tusk took place at the Ursynow Orlik sports field in Warsaw. Among the participants of the meeting with the media were Adam Giersz, Minister of Sport and Tourism, Ryszard Stachurski, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Urszula Kierzkowska, Mayor of the Capital City's Ursynów District, and Roman Kosecki, Sejm Deputy.
