On 7 June 2011, the first edition of the volleyball tournament for children and youth "Orlik Volleymania" was officially started. The event was held at one of the sports fields built under the programme "My Sports Field - ORLIK 2012", at Primary School No. 53 in Warsaw. It was attended by Mr Ryszard Stachurski, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Mr Mirosław Przedpełski, President of the Polish Volleyball Federation, Mr Piotr Gruszka, European champion and world vice-champion, Mr Tomasz Lenkiewicz, director of COS Central Sports Centre, and Mr Rafał Miastowski, Mayor of the Bielany district.

5500 girls and boys, 540 teams, hundreds of matches, thousands of points won, incredible emotions...The first edition of Poland's largest basketball tournament "Orlik Basketmania" is now over. The Great Finals which took place on 4 June 2011 at the "Spodek Hall" in Katowice finished the competition for youth teams in four age categories, organised for the following five southern Voivodships of Poland: dolnośląskie, opolskie, śląskie, małopolskie and podkarpackie. The best teams and players were congratulated and received their medals and prizes during a closing ceremony attended by the sports sector officials including Ryszard Stachurski, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Grzegorz Bachański, President of the Polish Basketball Federation and Jacek Jakubowski, President of the Polish Basketball League, as well as representatives of the Boards of Directors of TAURON Polska Energia SA, the sponsor of the event and Spalding, the technical partner of the event, Michał Luty, Deputy Mayor of Katowice and former top-level basketball players Adam Wójcik and Jacek Krzykała.

Poland is pursuing a proactive international policy in preparation for its EU Presidency. In this context, Minister of Sport and Tourism has recently held a number of international meetings to discuss the combat against threats to integrity in sports, which is one of Poland's priorities in this field.

On May 30th, an agreement on the operating arrangements of the campaign "Tourism emergency line" was signed by Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism Katarzyna Sobierajska, Deputy Commander in Chief of the Police Waldemar Jarczewski, Head of the Office for Foreigners Rafał Rogala and Chairman of the Polish Tourism Organization Rafał Szmytke.

On May 16th, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism Katarzyna Sobierajska and the Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski signed an agreement concerning the organization of the European Tourism Forum. The event will take place in Kraków, 5-7 October, 2011.

On May 15th, Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz took part in the meeting of the Foundation Board of the World Anti-Doping Agency in Montreal. As a minister of the country to hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2011, he will be representing Europe for 18 months at the world's most important anti-doping organization.

Almost 5 500 girls and boys from 549 teams have joined "Orlik Basketmania", Poland's greatest youth basketball tournament. The event is taking place at 36 sports facilities built under the programme "My Sports Field - ORLIK 2012", in five Voivodeships in the south of the country: Dolnośląskie (8 Orliks), Małopolskie (8 Orliks), Opolskie (4 Orliks), Podkarpackie (8 Orliks) and Śląskie (8 Orliks).

Katarzyna Sobierajska, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism met on April 28th with the Secretary General of the European Travel Agents and Tour Operators Association (ECTAA) Michel de Blust and with representatives of the Executive Board of the Polish Tourism Organization. The meeting addressed issues of key importance for the development of tourism that ECTAA is currently working on and which will be the focus of the Association's activities during Poland's Presidency of the EU Council.
